Club La Santa continues its commitment to virtual events and in its latest event, dedicated to the triathlon, it hosted athletes of 14 different nationalities.
In the absence of such emblematic sporting events as Ironman Lanzarote, Volcano Triathlon and Ironman 70.3, Club La Santa has demonstrated a huge capacity to adapt to the new competitive context caused by the health crisis.
Since the beginning of its Virtual Series project in June, it has alternated different sports modalities – a running, duathlon, marathon – and in this fourth edition the triathlon was the focus, the King of sporting competitions on the island.
The event was divided into three modalities, an Olympic triathlon, a sprint triathlon and an event for the youngest triathletes, with the participation of up to 14 different nationalities.
The winners of the Olympic triathlon were the young woman from Tenerife, Zaira Lorenzo, and the Valencian Emilio Aguayo, who has reappeared after an injury. Zaira showed a time of 2:05’57”, which allowed her to beat her closest challenger, the British veteran based in Lanzarote, Doris Krimm, by nearly 44 minutes. Third place was occupied by Britain’s Bizzy Watson. For his part, Emilio Aguayo, with a time of 1:59’30”, had a 4’31” advantage over Fernando Colom, second on the podium, with third place going to Levin Veale, a Briton who works at the Club La Santa within the Green Team.
The winners of the sprint triathlon were the German Anne Haug (1:00’54”) and the Briton Fraser Kidd (1:01’24”). The women’s podium was completed by the Britain’s Laura Wise and Germany’s Hella Haak, while the men’s podium was made up of Germany’s Michael Loidold and Spain’s Miguel Álvarez.
Lastly, the youngest winners were Britain’s Isabel Moore (31’19”) and Maxim Aznar Gil (38’00”), both U16 triathletes with great projection. The race director, Fabio Cabrera, was very satisfied at the end of the race, saying “it’s been a great experience, and you never feel alone because you know you are running with the whole community.” The person in charge of sporting events at Club La Santa emphasised that “virtual races are the model to follow until normality is recovered.”
Before the end of the year, the fifth edition of Club La Santa Virtual Series will be held, with the registration period opening at the beginning of December.
