A journey through a unique natural space, Lanzarote, La Graciosa, competition, mountain biking… These are just a few of the ingredients in store for participants in this MTB sporting event, among whom is Alessandro Degasperi, winner of the 2018 Ironman Lanzarote
We are now entering the countdown phase towards the start of pedalling of the 625 athletes registered for the VI UltraBike Lanzarote, which this year is a month earlier in our ESD calendar. This event offers guaranteed enjoyment for MTB lovers throughout, in large part because of the unique beauty of its route.
This edition will again be held over two days, 23rd and 24th February, while maintaining its three classic events. On Saturday there will be a 16-km time trial on the island of La Graciosa, which will enable participants to enjoy the beautiful surroundings while trying to complete the route of the first stage in the shortest time possible.
On Sunday, the long Bike (54 km) and UltraBike (89 km) distances will require cyclists to make a huge effort if they want to enjoy all the different nooks and crannies that the Lanzarote stage will offer them before reaching the finishing line. The UltraBike Lanzarote is special for being a unique opportunity for lovers of mountain biking to discover two islands at competition rhythm, and it will certainly force them to do their utmost if they want to complete the two stages.
The 2019 event has beaten the record for entries with a total of 625 registered, including the winner of the 2018 Ironman Lanzarote, Alessandro Degasperi and the reigning champions of the competition, Ismael Ventura and Kati Sierra. It is also important to emphasize the participation in the men’s category of Unai Yus and Oriol Colomé, who completed the event in second and third place respectively last year, in addition to Cathaysa Sánchez, who came second in the women’s category last year.
There are many reasons for travelling to Lanzarote, but the important sporting events that take place throughout the year on the island are, without a doubt, gaining increasing importance among those who choose to visit the Island of Volcanoes. Year after year, more and more athletes sign up to compete in the different sporting events, and at the same time they are consolidating their position as important events in the various international sporting calendars, and that is why they are attracting ever larger numbers of foreign athletes.
