This is the first time that two free diver couples will enter the competition. Around 50 participants will meet for the event that will take place from 28 to 30 June and almost € 10,000 will be given as awards, including a cruise holiday to the Maldives.
For the first time, that couples two couples out of the twenty-five registered for the event. will dive holding their breath. The main aim of this event is to promote the wealth of the seabed of the island and the Chinijo Archipelago, highlighting its biodiversity and the underwater activity.
The opening ceremony that took place yesterday at the Castillo de San José, in Arrecife, was attended by the Tourist Promotion Minister of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ángel Vázquez, confirmed that this event “is part of the European Sports Destination project, which aims to promote the island as a top-level international sports tourism destination, and, particularly, the scuba diving that attracts a better class of tourist”.
The Arts, Culture and Tourism Centers (CACT) Minister, Echedey Eugenio, highlighted the commitment to develop the diving activities made by the Cabildo of Lanzarote .
Felix Viña, the representative of the Walloon collective and organiser of the event in collaboration with the Underwater Activities Club Pastinaca, also announced The ‘Open Fotosub Lanzarote Mar de Lava’ that will simultaneously feature two online photography competitions called ‘Geoparque Lanzarote’ and ‘Museo Atlántico’. For the first time there will be a prize for experiential photographs, requested by Turismo Lanzarote in order to increase its imagery.
Almost € 10,000 will be given as awards. The winning couple will get € 2,000 and a cruise holiday to the Maldives. Participants will be able to take their pictures from the afternoon of Thursday 28 until the afternoon of Friday 29th, and they will have to hand in six photos and have the possibility of also taking night pictures.
The jury will score the photos and the couple achieving the highest score will win, the final result will be announced on Saturday the 30th at the gala, which will be held in Charco de San Ginés, Arrecife. All the information of the event is available on the website www.openfotosublanzarote.com
