The team captained by Laura Iza achieved fifth place in the Iberdrola Women’s Sailing League
Lanzarote was represented in the National Women’s Sailing League by the Calero Marinas Lanzarote team, which participated in all five locations where the competition took place: Altea, Calpe, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Getxo and Lanzarote. Under the direction of skipper Laura Iza, the team achieved a well-deserved fifth place, a result that reflects their excellent work throughout the season.
We made the Iberdrola League 2024 this year
For Laura Iza, this has been a very motivating season, which has seen the team feeling competitive, always in the fight for the top positions in their numerous regattas. Although she recognises that some details prevented them from achieving a better position, she stresses that the objective set at the beginning of the season has been satisfactorily achieved.
In the general category we were fifth and, in truth, I’m really happy with the result and, overall, our feelings are that we’re very motivated and grateful that we can be ahead
The team trains in Lanzarote’s waters throughout the year, which is a considerable advantage in their preparation. “We train in a privileged place for this sport, which is really motivating and gives us more confidence during the competitions,” says Iza. This year, moreover, the National League scheduled one of its events on the island, allowing fans to enjoy two days of a great sailing spectacle.
For the team’s skipper, competitions of this type are very important, because they represent a vital platform for the visibility and promotion of women’s sailing. “We have really enjoyed the League. It has given us the opportunity to compete alongside established sailors and others who were making their debut in the competition, a combination that has given excellent results“, she says.
The Calero Marinas Lanzarote team and its boat have lived up to expectations, and now the team will take a well-deserved rest. But they’ll be keeping an eye on next season, when they will return to the Iberdrola Women’s Sailing League, in another step towards the promotion and consolidation of the sport of women’s sailing.
