Brothers Conor and Dylan Donegan stand out on the Spanish circuit thanks to their excellent results in major surfing events
They may be just 17 and 14 years old but they have already made a name for themselves in the Spanish surfing scene thanks to their excellent performances in important events that have brought them to the attention of prestigious international brands that see future champions in the two brothers.
Conor and Dylan Donegan, of Irish mother and Portuguese father, were born in Lanzarote and ever since they were very young the sea has been their favourite playground, not only on a surfboard but with any activity that kept them in contact with this environment. Their father was in charge of pushing out the board so they could surf their first waves in Famara and since then these same waves have been forging two of the most outstanding young surfers in Spain today.
My passion for surfing comes from when my father taught me when I was very young, it was when I was two years old or even less that he took me and pushed me out to catch the waves – Conor Donegan
“My friends used to invite me to go play football, but I preferred to go surfing“, says the eldest of the brothers. Conor is among the riders invited to participate in the next edition of the Quemao Class, a piece of news that has him feeling very excited. “It’s a dream for me to be in this event because apart from being able to compete with some of my idols, I also consider the Quemao wave to be the best in the world.“
Conor has participated in several championships so far, achieving very good results that have served to gain experience. One of his secrets is “to train a lot with the type of wave that I’m going to find in the competition” something that has helped him to climb to the top of the podium in many events.
My goal since I was little, since I started surfing, has been to become a professional. I would like to see myself already fighting to enter the CT, which is the league where the best are. – Dylan Donegan
Like his brother, Dylan had his first experiences on a surfboard when he was just two years old. The youngest of the Donegans stresses that he has an advantage over his rivals and that “my best weapon is that I live in a place where I can surf 365 days a year with a good temperature, with many hours of sunshine and with a variety of types of waves“. His long-term goal is to form part of the CT, an international circuit in which only the best riders in the world participate.
“I know that to get there I have to train a lot, but that’s what I’ve been visualizing ever since I was a kid and I work every day to achieve it“. The results achieved by the youngest of the Donegan family have not gone unnoticed and today he has a contract with the renowned surf brand Quiksilver, sponsorship that reflects the young rider’s potential.
Lanzarote is the destination chosen by thousands of surfers every year to enjoy their sport, attracted by the international recognition of some of the island’s surfing spots. Conor and Dylan have grown up surfing some of the best waves in the world without realizing it, and that is undoubtedly the root of their passion for this sport.
