The trail runner won in the Transgrancanaria, his third Canary Islands Ultra Championship
After exploring various disciplines, Albi Cedrés found his true sporting passion in trail running. He began accompanying his father-in-law in sessions that combined walking and running, but over time he fell in love with the mountains and nature. Nowadays, he holds three titles as Canary Islands Trail Champion, as well as several outstanding performances in regional and national competitions.
““The landscapes of Lanzarote are a source of motivation to train”
He has remained loyal to trail running because of the values it transmits: “No other sport offers me what trail running offers me: companionship, a love of nature and the ability to overcome adversity in search of a final objective”. His physical preparation is demanding, with long training sessions, sometimes before dawn.
However, he stresses the importance of psychological preparation to face the challenges that can arise during a race: “In a race, you don’t enjoy it; you suffer until you cross the finish line, and that will always be the case”.
This year, he achieved his third Canary Ultra Championship in the Transgrancanaria, an 84 km race through the mountains of Gran Canaria, which he completed in 8 hours and 53 minutes. However, his main objective is to represent the Canarian Trail Team in the Spanish Community Championship, which will be held in Cantabria. “I will do everything possible to support my colleagues and hold high the name of the Canary Islands at a national level.”
Although the topography of Lanzarote does not facilitate preparation for mountain races due to the lack of elevation, Albi assures us that high-quality training can still be carried out. He highlights the variety of circuits available across the island and notes that Lanzarote’s stunning landscapes are a unique source of motivation during training, something not found elsewhere.
The runner hopes to compete in the Famara Total (August 17) and the Haría Titán (November 16) this year, to once again experience the excitement of running at home.
