The event celebrated its sixth edition last Saturday with the participation of more than 300 sportsmen and women
With just one week to go before the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote and in the same place where the swimming circuit for that event will be held, Sands Beach Active organised the sixth edition of the Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water last Saturday, an event that returned to the island’s calendar of events after a two-year absence. Lanzarote meets all the requirements for the practice of swimming 365 days a year and hosting this type of event helps to communicate the ideal weather conditions through the experience of the participants.
This year the organisers had prepared three circuits perfectly delimited by markers: 5 km, 3.8 km (IRONMAN course) and 1.9 km. The youngest athletes also had the opportunity to show off their skills in the water in front of their families with three circuits perfectly suited to the age of the participants (800 m, 400 m and 200 m).
Renowned triathletes such as Pablo Dapena, Saleta Cartro and Peru Alfaro took their place on the starting line and enjoyed a race in which professionals intermingled with amateur athletes in search of a shared goal – to cross the finish line located under a large Sailfish arch. Iit’s worth mentioning the participation of swimmers from the Adapted Swimming Campus directed by Jordi Bosch in this edition, giving several of its members the opportunity to have their first experience of a competition.
The podium for the three distances was as follows:

The epicentre of the sixth Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water was located in a large marquee on one side of the Puerto del Carmen seafront avenue, housing an information point and a place to buy or rent specialised equipment. In addition, during the week prior to the event, free training sessions were held over the different courses of the event and the marquee served as a meeting point for swimmers and coaches.
The Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water closed its sixth edition with the awards ceremony and with the positive evaluation of the participants who all had great experience of a day that will remain forever in their memory.
