Yachtsmen and women from Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma and Hondarribia participated in the opening event of the Canary Island Sailing Federation’s CIOS Circuit. Pablo Tejera (RCNGC) dominated the race from the beginning
The southern bay of Playa Blanca hosted the International Halloween Regatta – Circuit CIOS Marina Rubicón – Naviera Armas Transmediterránea Trophy which saw some 80 participants competing in the Optimist mode. This was the first event of the Canary Island Sailing Federation’s CIOS circuit, which took place with all the necessary health measures in place, and saw the participation of young sailors from Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma and Hondarribia.
The race, organised by the Club de Regatas 4 Vientos and the Canary Island Sailing Federation in Marina Rubicón, consisted of six regattas where the clear winner was Gran Canaria’s Pablo Tejera, from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, who won four of them.
In the first race, Pablo Tejera, his club mate Miguel Padrón and Andrea Stinga, from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, won places on the podium. The second also went to Pablo Tejera, again followed by Miguel Padrón, however this time the third position went to Jorge Castellano, also from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria. In the third race Miguel Padrón and Pablo Tejera exchanged positions, with third place going to Fernando Benítez, from the Club de Regatas 4 Vientos.
The fourth race was won by Miguel Méndez, from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, followed by Miguel Padrón and Pablo Tejera. In the fifth race Pablo Tejera returned to the top of the podium accompanied by his club mates Jorge Sosa and Patricia Caballero, while in the last race it was Fernando Benítez and Miguel Méndez who accompanied Pablo, who again took first place.
Overall, the general classification was headed by Pablo Tejera, with 9 points, followed by Miguel Padrón, with 14, and Miguel Méndez, with 22, all of them from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria. By age categories, the winners in the under 11’s were Ayoset Vega from the Club de Regatas 4 Vientos and Marta Mansito, from the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife.
The under 13 category went to Miguel Padrón from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria and Sofía Hernández from the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife, while the under 16 category went to Pablo Tejera and Patricia Caballero, both from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria. In the women’s category, first place went to Patricia Caballero from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, the second went to Sofía Hernández from the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife, with Irene Tamayo from the Club de Actividades Náuticas de Tenerife taking third place.
