The 44Cup Calero Marinas closed the season of this class with twelve exciting races. Aleph Racing won the race and Charisma was the winner of the season
The 44Cup Calero Marinas closed the RC44 class season with twelve spectacular races in which the nine boats, with their unique black sails, provided a great nautical spectacle during the four days of competition. It was Hugues Lepic’s Aleph Racing that took the final victory in this race, but the triumph of the season in the RC44 class was achieved by Nico Poons’ Charisma. Lanzarote was once again a perfect setting for the season finale of this competition. Vasco Vascotto, tactician of Peninsula Racing, commented at the presentation of the race: “Nobody is persuading us to come to the island, it is the crews who want to come to train and compete here”.
The first day of the 44Cup Calero Marinas featured three races that did not disappoint, with most of the boats arriving at the turning mark with very close distances between them, promising another nail-biting finish. This time it was Charisma, followed by Aleph Racing and Team Nika.
The second day of competition had surprises from the beginning, starting with some delay after the regatta course had to be moved to Playa Honda due to the lack of wind. The first regatta ended with Vladimir Prosikhin’s Team Nika, seriously running as the definitive candidate to take first place overall, but it was the Frenchman Hugues Lepic’s boat, “Aleph Racing”, which would close the second day as leader after achieving a first, a fourth and a second place, which gives clues about the high level of this competition.
Ceeref powered by Hrastnik was the one that managed to close the third day with a triumph, followed by Charisma and Team Aqua. The classification of the 44Cup Calero Marinas, after the dispute in the ninth round, continued by leaving Aleph Racing as the leader with 25 points; Team Nika in second place, with 29 points; and Charisma third.
On the last day, it was Península Racing that achieved the last victory of the competition, followed by Ceeref Powered by Harstnik 1860 and in third place came Team Aqua. Aleph Racing crossed the finish line in fourth position, followed in this order by Team Nika, Artemis Racing, Black Star, Team Sixty Nine and Charisma.
After the final day of the 44Cup, Calero and adding to the points obtained in the five events held this year, Charisma of Nico Poons took the victory of the season in the RC44 class (7 points). Second position went to Aleph Racing (10 points) and Ceeref powered by Hrastnik 1860 closed the final podium (13 points). Team Nika finished the season in fourth place, followed by Península Racing, Team Aqua, Black Star Sailing Team and Artemis Racing.
Hosting an event like the 44Cup Calero Marinas is very relevant for Lanzarote, not only because of the presence of the impressive yachts, but because of the number of participating teams coming from all over the world, their companions and both local and international fans who stay on the island for several days to enjoy the spectacle off the coast of Lanzarote.
In addition, it must be taken into account that the event in Puerto Calero will be repeated in the month of February, this time as the opening day of the new season for the 44 Cup.
