The RC44s were back in action for a spectacular sailing display. Team Nika from Monaco took the victory in the 44Cup Calero Marinas, the first event of the year of the 44Cup circuit.
The impressive black sails of the RC44s were once again visible on the horizon of the island over the four days of competition in the 44Cup Calero Marinas. This prestigious sailing competition came to Lanzarote for the twelfth time, offering a spectacular sailing performance just a few metres from the dock of Puerto Calero. The Monaco flagged Team Nika was the winner of this edition, followed by Team Ceeref Vaider and Peninsula Racing.
The wind intensity remained steady in this edition, consistently reaching 25 knots, the limit necessary to compete in the regattas. However, the crews were able to cope skilfully with the weather conditions, offering impressive manoeuvres in each of the 9 races sailed.
After the results achieved during the 4 days of competition, the 44Cup Calero Marinas crowned Team Nika as the big winner (26 points), followed by Team Ceeref Vaider (34 points), Peninsula Racing (35 points), Team Aqua (39), Aleph Racing (41), Charisma (46), Back Star Sailing Team (56), Artemis Racing (59) and Calero Sailing Team (72).
The local team, Calero Sailing Team, participated in this edition of the event. Despite it being their first foray into this challenging competition, they performed remarkably well, leaving a positive impression and with the hope of continuing the 44Cup circuit. Alfredo González, tactician of the Calero Sailing Team, highlighted the importance of this edition and valued the excellent work of the team during the four days. Gonzalez expressed his wish that they can continue competing in the 44Cup circuit and represent Lanzarote’s name in this outstanding sailing competition.
The 44Cup returned to Lanzarote thanks to the good weather conditions and the spectacular infrastructure offered by the island. Bertrand Favre, director of the RC44 Class, stated that they have chosen Lanzarote since 2008 because the Island always offers impressive images and a great spectacle at sea.
After Lanzarote, the 44Cup will head to the Iberian Peninsula, specifically to Baiona, in the autonomous region of Galicia, for the first time in the history of the event. Baiona, located on the Vigo estuary, is historically significant as it is the place where La Pinta docked with news of the discovery of the New World.
