Day was dawning over La Santa and the participants of the 2017 LANZAROTE Ironman 70.3 were already on the starting line ready to get a qualifying slot for the 2018 World Championship in South Africa.
After 3 hours and 47 minutes of competition with cloudy skies and a light breeze and a new cycle route with faster turns, the South African James Cunnama was proclaimed winner in the men’s category, who shared the podium with the Spanish Emilio Aguayo (03:50:20) and the Belgian Kenneth Vandendriessche (03:57:15) as the German Markus Rolli (03:50:50) was disqualified during the race.
In the women’s category, the German Anne Haug (04:12:38) was proclaimed winner, , the British Lucy Charles (04:20:32) came second and the Austrian Michaela Herlbauer (04: 29: 34) finished in third place.
The Canary Ricardo Hernandez Marrero, Sprint and Olympic distance specialist, finished in ninth place.
