Two local athletes, Fernando Rodríguez and Miguel Ángel Duque, beat the course record when they completed the 40 km race in a time of 4:21:00
A total of 370 participants gathered together on Saturday, 23 November, lighting up the local coastline with splashes of colour as they took part in the three different race modalities of the 3rd SwimRun Lanzarote. The participating pairs came from all over Europe, and they were joined by other athletes from the different islands of the Canary Islands archipelago. They all took part in races that started in Teguise (40 km), Arrecife (17 km) or Playa Honda (8 km), enjoying the spectacular routes set by the organisation.
The island’s volcanoes, its landscapes and, in particular, its coastline, all witnessed the huge challenges the participants had to face in a race that combined both running and swimming, and which was carried out in male, female or mixed pairs. The runners’ happiness upon reaching the finish line, despite picking up a few jellyfish stings along the way, is a clear sign that this event is here to stay in the Lanzarote European Sports Destination sports calendar.
After thanking the participating pairs for their efforts in each of the three distances, the organisation highlighted the extraordinary achievement of the winning pair, who completed the 40 km race in a record-breaking time. Indeed, the organisers had to hurry even more than usual in order to keep up with the astounding pace they had set both running and swimming. Fernando Rodríguez and Miguel Ángel Duque were crowned champions in the long distance event of the 3rd edition of SwimRun Lanzarote, taking a total of 4:21:00 to complete the route from Castillo de Santa Bárbara (Teguise) to the finish line, which was located in Playa Grande, Puerto del Carmen.
The previous day, our younger participants enjoyed a fantastic atmosphere over the course of their races, thanks to the support of their families, friends and coaches.
